After a small economic crisis due to the railroad strike in the 1920s, Las Vegas bounced back with the help of the state and federal government. As workers poured into town to construct the Hoover Dam, state laws for marriage and gambling were relaxed, giving Las Vegas the leverage it needed to crank up its tourism business.
