Conservation gets big wins

Across the West, beautiful natural landscapes and thriving wildlife populations are cherished parts of what make us love to call this region home. Nevada’s vast expanses of sagebrush and winding red rock canyons make this especially true. A healthy environment supports local economies and promotes our quality of life.

Western Resource Advocates works to promote and protect the communities, environment and economies of Western states – so it is celebrating the $3.6 million in recent projects awarded by Conserve Nevada. Since its inception in 2002, Conserve Nevada has benefited every county in the state. This year’s projects will help protect and restore habitat for wildlife, increase resilience against natural disasters driven by climate change, and build trails and recreation infrastructure that will increase Nevadans’ access to the outdoors.

These efforts are broadly supported, with a recent Conservation in the West poll showing that nearly 80% of Nevadans support protecting more lands and waters. Projects funded by Conserve Nevada will do just that, protecting and restoring important landscapes and riparian habitats throughout the state. This valuable program is a boon for our state, and we congratulate the Nevada Department of Conservation and Natural Resources for its success.

The next time you’re hiking a new trail in Red Rock Canyon or fishing at Comins Lake in the Steptoe Valley Wildlife Management Area, say a small thank-you to Conserve Nevada for funding these spectacular places.
