Denver Nuggets guard Jamal Murray, left, looks to pass the ball as Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard defends in the second half of Game 1 of an NBA basketball second-round playoff series, Monday, April 29, 2019, in Denver. The Nuggets won 121-113.

The sixth season of the annual Play of the Day betting competition between the Sun's sports staff is now underway, effective July 1.

Bankrolls start at $10,000 for each of the four participants, with the objective to increase it as much as possible over the next year. The minimum daily wager is $300, with a $200 penalty assessed for failing to place a bet on an assigned day.

Past winners are Case Keefer in 2018-19 and 2017-2018, Ray Brewer in 2016-2017 and 2015-2016, and Taylor Bern in 2014-2015.

Denver Nuggets moneyline plus-105 at Oklahoma City Thunder: $500 to win $525

Betting against the Thunder has been akin to lighting cash on fire this year, so to start the second half of the season, I’ll bring the gasoline.

Oklahoma City is a feel-good story after it’s competed despite trading away both Russell Westbrook and Paul George in the offseason and is more or less cemented into a playoff spot right now. But the Thunder should experience some regression in the second half of the season.

They’ve played a little above their heads. From a purely talent standpoint, the Nuggets have them outmatched.

Tactically, the road team is in a good spot, too, as coach Mike Malone is one of the best strategists in the NBA and had extra time to get ready for this game out of the All-Star break.

It might be scary to fade the Thunder given its 36-19-1 against the spread mark, but that record is not predictive moving forward. The Nuggets beat the Thunder relatively easily in their first meeting of the year, 110-102, and should do so again tonight.

Current Standings: Keefer (27-22-2, $9,635), Grimala (14-5, $8,865), Brewer (14-11, $7,995), Emerson (13-16, $5,950)
