A woman showed up to her ex-girlfriend’s south Las Vegas valley residence, broke in and killed the woman’s new love interest early Saturday, according to Metro Police.

It wasn’t clear if the victim died from being stabbed or from having his head stomped on, Metro Lt. Ray Spencer said Sunday.

Grissel Areli Gonzaga is being held on counts of murder, burglary and domestic battery with a deadly weapon, jail logs show. Additionally, Gonzaga, 29, was booked on a separate domestic battery warrant.

The suspect’s relationship with the homeowner ended a couple of months ago. However, Gonzaga contacted her on Friday saying she wanted to come over, Spencer said. The woman told Gonzaga she wasn’t welcome.

But Gonzaga showed up anyway, breaking in through the backyard of the house in the 9600 block of Pine River Lane, near Silverado Ranch Boulevard and Pollock Street, Spencer said.

Gonzaga had an altercation upstairs with her ex-girlfriend, and the male victim was able to “carry” the suspect out of the house, Spencer said. But she broke in again, this time going into the kitchen to grab a knife and going into a room occupied by children. She told the young kids “look what your mom is doing.”

When the man intervened, Gonzaga put him in a chokehold until he became unconscious. Gonzaga then stomped on his head and stabbed him with a sharp object believed to be tweezers, Spencer said.

But the man regained consciousness and he was able to again drag Gonzaga out of the house, Spencer said. However, when he went back inside, he collapsed, and later died.

He had substantial injuries to his head, but investigators were trying to determine how he died, Spencer said.

Meanwhile, Gonzaga stayed outside, breaking all the windows from the victim’s car, Spencer said. Officers responded about 5 a.m.

The ex-girlfriend was treated for minor injuries, Spencer said.
