In response to the March 27 letter “HOA payments are nonessential”: Homeowners associations are nonprofit businesses. Depending on the covenants, conditions and restrictions (CC&Rs), they maintain the common area landscaping and community pool (for those that have one). They have to provide liability insurance and they must maintain an adequate reserve fund for emergencies and upkeep.
Those who live in beautiful communities have to understand that it takes money to keep it that way. For that reason, association fees are essential.
