LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

The fix is in on Senate trial

How can anyone swear, before God and man, to be an impartial juror in the impeachment trial of President Donald Trump but not want to hear from John Bolton and Mick Mulvaney, who have first-hand knowledge of the events or see documents related to the phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelenskiy?

It would only take four Republican senators to side with Democrats to force the Senate into, at least, the semblance of a fair trial.

The House has provided an 80-day investigation. Dozens of witnesses, risking jobs and careers, have given damning testimony of the president’s behavior. Was this all for naught?

Taken at his word, the juror in the case, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, said he was not impartial and would work with the president’s lawyers in making this a quick process. Fellow Republican Lindsey Graham declared he is not even going to read the evidence.

Does anyone see the danger to our democracy when elected officials give blind allegiance to an arguably corrupt man? Study your history books. You might be astounded to see how many similarities there are between the rise of Adolf Hitler in Nazi Germany and the political landscape we have today. Have the lives of every man and woman who died to preserve the American ideals of truth, justice and the rule of law been given in vain?
