UNLV Rebels quarterback Armani Rogers (1) gets set to pass against the Arkansas State Red Wolves during their NCAA football game Saturday, September 7, 2019, at Sam Boyd Stadium.

UNLV quarterback Armani Rogers is entering the transfer portal and will play his final season at another school.

Rogers made the announcement via Twitter on Monday:

Rogers came to UNLV in 2016 as one of the top-rated recruits in program history. A big, fast, athletic quarterback from Los Angeles, Rogers was a 3-star prospect who was immediately tabbed as the face of the program.

He redshirted in 2016 then became the starter as a freshman in 2017. Rogers completed 52.4 percent of his passes that year for 1,471 yards, with six touchdowns and five interceptions. He also ran for 780 yards and eight touchdowns.

That campaign turned out to be the pinnacle of Rogers’ career. His biggest issue was accuracy, as his completion percentage dropped to 44.4 percent in 2018 and 51.9 percent in 2019. Rogers also struggled with injuries; he played 10 games as a freshman, then was limited to 10 games total over the next two years.

Freshman Kenyon Oblad took over the quarterback job last year and could compete for the job as a sophomore in 2020 under new head coach Marcus Arroyo. The Rebels also brought in TCU transfer Justin Rogers, a former 4-star prospect; if Rogers is granted immediate eligibility, he could be the frontrunner for the starting spot.
