Las Vegas visitation is trending up but remains significantly behind last year’s pace, according to report released today by the region’s top tourism agency.
In September, Las Vegas welcomed just over 1.7 million visitors, up 11% from August but down 51% from September 2019, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
The travel and tourism industries have been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic.
The state ordered casinos shut for nearly three months starting in mid-March to try to help control the spread of the virus. Since reopening with strict safety guidelines, casinos have seen revenue sharply decline.
Heading into October, about 14.4 million people had visited Las Vegas in 2020, down from nearly 31.9 million through September 2019, the tourism agency reported.
Hotel occupancy was just under 47% for September, up 4% from August but down from 88% the same month last year.
