LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Is any one vaccine enough?

Being a very senior citizen and tired of self-quarantining, I realize my only hope is to try to live long enough for the arrival of effective therapeutic drugs and vaccines.

I am not versed in medicine, but I wonder about the efficiency of a single vaccine for different people, i.e. race, age, gender, underlying conditions, etc. There are many companies worldwide developing vaccines using different methods of attacking the coronavirus. It would seem that achieving a high percentage of effectiveness would depend on coordinating which vaccines work best for specific people, then establishing an individual immunization protocol.

Assuming serial inoculations as a possible approach, people would be evaluated, categorized and then given a vaccine. I don’t see how just one vaccine is going to be “one shot fits all.”

I pray somebody’s “light bulb” has turned on and is pursuing this line of research and development. COVID-19 is going to be around a long time, and I, like the whole world, would like to get back to living. I certainly didn’t expect to be afraid of going out with a tube stuck down my throat.
