Nevada gaming regulator leaving for board of Fortune 500 company

The outgoing chairwoman of the Nevada Gaming Control Board is taking position on the Fidelity National Financial board of directors.

Sandra Douglass Morgan said today she is taking the position effective Nov. 9.

In a statement released Thursday, Morgan said she was leaving the Gaming Control Board Nov. 6 for a “professional opportunity.”

Fidelity is a Fortune 500 company that provides title insurance and other services to the mortgage industry.

Morgan, the first Black person to head the Gaming Control Board, has talked about the importance of diversity on public company boards.

“I wasn’t thinking of leaving the board — that was the opportunity of a lifetime,” Morgan said. “During my time (at the Gaming Control Board), I’ve asked companies about their diversity and inclusion efforts. When I got this new opportunity, I thought I needed to embrace what I’ve been encouraging the gaming industry to do.”

Gov. Steve Sisolak said he would announce Morgan’s replacement in the near future.

Morgan will be “greatly missed, but her leadership and ability to put together a talented team has left the state in a great position to fill the role with another accomplished individual,” Sisolak said in a statement.

Morgan, a lawyer, took over as chairwoman in early 2019, replacing Becky Harris.
