Death of woman, 18, investigated in east Las Vegas shooting

Metro Police were investigating the fatal shooting of an 18-year-old woman inside a car in an east Las Vegas apartment complex Monday night, according to Lt. Ray Spencer.

The teenager died at University Medical Center, Spencer said.

The gunshot erupted about 8:30 p.m. to the complex in the 4600 block of Charleston Boulevard, near Marion Drive.

A group of six young people, including juveniles, was listening to music inside a parked vehicle, Spencer said.

It wasn’t clear how, or why, but a person in the backseat fired a gun, striking the woman, Spencer said.

The people in the backseat fled the scene, while detectives were interviewing the people who stayed behind.

As of late Monday, detectives hadn’t determined if the shooting was intentional, Spencer said.

Additional details have not been released.
