There are GOP lawmakers who have vowed to rid the party of former President Donald Trump. Other GOP lawmakers feel that Trump is too powerful and cannot be rid from the party. Then, there are GOP lawmakers who are “ride or die” because they believe Trump actually won the election but was a victim of widespread voter fraud. Trump has been transformed into the Republicans’ Joan of Arc.
The GOP allowed misinformation, grandstanding, egos, agendas and outright lies to be dispersed to the masses. We can blame the extremist groups, evangelicals, the rich or the media but the truth is simple: Trumpism is directly the responsibility of the GOP. Its shortsighted wants and power were the prizes. All along, Republicans underestimated Trump. Shame on them.
Now, it’s the Republicans’ responsibility to fix the damage. They are guilty of sacrificing their constituents and our democracy for their own selfishness.
