LETTER TO THE EDITOR:

Rich elites can pay fair share

In the May 7 letter “Bill always footed by middle class,” the writer attacks President Joe Biden’s proposals to bolster the middle class by arguing that the middle class will bear the cost of such proposals, Biden’s “rich elites” will not support a “tax the rich scheme” and Biden is just promising “free stuff for votes.”

Why berate a tax proposal as a scheme when there will be no increase for anyone making less than $400,000, and it mandates audits for millionaire and billionaire tax cheats? Trump’s 2017 tax cuts were a mother lode gift to the wealthy, resulting in $450 billion less revenue to assist the poor and middle class. Where was the outrage in 2017?

I’m not surprised that the writer accused Biden of trying to buy votes, as he wrote a Nov. 20, 2020, letter (i.e. post-election) in which he claimed all politicians are job preservationists, promising anything to get or stay elected. Like asking Georgia’s secretary of state to come up with an additional 11,780 bogus votes?

Finally, the writer states that circus master P.T. Barnum is somewhere smiling about Biden’s proposals. Lest we forget, it was Trump who made popular the maxim, “If you elect a clown, expect a circus.”
