The Clark County School Board will meet Thursday to begin the work of appointing an interim superintendent to replace recently ousted Superintendent Jesus Jara.
A deeply divided board voted 4-3 last week to terminate Jara’s contract “for convenience,” meaning it didn't have to give a reason for the firing. The removal comes just five months after the board narrowly voted to extend Jara’s contract through Jan. 15, 2023.
According to the contract, Jara will be on 30 days notice to leave the Clark County School District upon receipt of a written notice of termination. It was unclear Monday if he had received the written notice.
Jara has led the district since mid-2018. He was hired out of Florida and earned a base salary of $320,000 a year here.
The board added the agenda item to a previously planned special board meeting slated to include a presentation and possible adoption of maps to redraw the lines for trustees’ election districts.
The meeting starts at 5 p.m. Thursday at the Greer Education Center, 2832 E. Flamingo Road.
