A key stretch of Las Vegas freeway reopened Wednesday afternoon, about nine hours after a pre-dawn crash involving an overturned fuel tanker and spilled gasoline.

The Nevada Highway Patrol said both directions of U.S. 95 west of downtown were closed to allow a hazardous materials clean-up before being reopened before 2 p.m.

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue spokesman Tim Szymanski said about 100 gallons (378 liters) of gasoline spilled following the wreck that left the tanker on its side and forced the complete road closure through the morning commute.

Another tanker was brought in for removal of what Szymanski said was approximately 8,500 gallons (32,176 liters) of fuel from the damaged truck.

The Highway Patrol said no one was seriously injured in the crash involving in the big rig and a BMW about 4:30 a.m. on the northbound freeway at Valley View Boulevard.
