The U.S. has almost completed the evacuation of more than 100,000 Americans and eligible Afghans wanting to leave Afghanistan. Even after the military pullout, President Joe Biden declared, “For those remaining Americans, there is no deadline. We remain committed to get them out, if they want to come out.”
Meanwhile, Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., is criticizing the president’s conduct in the effort. The president has faced an attack by ISIS-K, a rapid disbanding of the sitting government and the Afghan army, and a bad decision on the pullout date made by the previous administration. In order to provide convincing criticism, one must provide an alternative. McCarthy has provided none, nor was he able to convince a sitting U.S. president to call off his followers as they attacked and ransacked the Capitol on Jan. 6. Americans died in that attack.
Every American should support the president in the evacuation of Americans and leave politics to the ballot box.
