Man, 21, arrested in death of woman found in desert south of Las Vegas

A 21-year-old man was arrested in California in connection to the murder of a woman found in a desert area near Las Vegas Boulevard South, Metro Police said Tuesday.

Albert Monterio, 21, was named a suspect in the case after he was arrested by police in Torrance, California, on Sept. 18, Metro said in a news release. He will be extradited to Las Vegas, according to the release.

Metro received a call on Sept. 11 after a citizen discovered the body while hiking near the 17000 block of Las Vegas Boulevard South. That’s near the SpeedVegas exotic car experience along Interstate 15.

Responding officers found the body and suspected foul play, police said.

Monterio faces one charge of open murder and one charge of robbery with use of a deadly weapon, according to court records. The Clark County Coroner’s Office has not yet released the name of the victim.
