A man was killed and two women were hospitalized Thursday night after an apparent dispute between family members took place inside a guest room at a Las Vegas Strip resort, according to Metro Police.

Suspect Billy Hemsley was arrested near Nellis Boulevard and Twain Avenue within six hours of the incident, police said. He was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder, they said.

Officers responded about 8:35 p.m. to the Mirage, 3400 Las Vegas Blvd. S., for reports of gunshots inside one of the hotel rooms, said homicide Capt. Dori Koren. Arriving officers were at the hotel within a minute of the call to dispatch, Koren said, and located three people suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The two women were transported to University Medical Center in critical condition, Koren said. A male victim was pronounced dead at the scene. None of the victims were identified.

Detectives believe the shooting occurred after an altercation between Hemsley and family members in the room on the eighth floor of the property, police said. At some point during the argument, Hemsley pulled out a gun, shot the victims and fled, police said.

The shooting prompted a lockdown at The Mirage for more than two hours after tourists watched police rush into the iconic casino and hotel on Las Vegas Boulevard.

Hemsley hasĀ a criminal history including felony convictions dating to 1987 and served several years in Nevada state prisons, records show.

Court and prison records show that Hemsley has also used the last name Moore and has spelled his first name several ways. He was released by the Nevada Department of Corrections in September 2019 after being sentenced in February 2013 in Las Vegas for convictions on charges of battery with a weapon.
