Human skeletal remains have once again been found at Lake Mead as the water recedes amid a decades-long drought, the National Park Service said today.

The remains, discovered about 8 p.m. Monday at Swim Beach, are the fifth set to be found since May.

Rangers set up a perimeter and received help from Metro Police and the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

The investigation remains ongoing, the Park Service said. No further information was released.

The Park Service announced Aug. 6 that another set of remains was discovered at Swim Beach.

In May, two sets of remains were found as Lake Mead's water levels have receded to historic lows.

One was discovered in a barrel and was determined to be from a homicide that likely occurred sometime in the 1970s or 1980s, police said.

Officials have speculated that more remains might be discovered as the lake level continues to drop.
