Burton: Expect different Bristol race

Jeff Burton said fans can expect a tamer NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race Sunday at Bristol Motor Speedway because of the resurfacing the track underwent last summer.

“If you want to go to a race to watch the wrecks, you probably won’t like the new surface as much,” Burton said of the half-mile oval. “If you want to watch a better race with more action and true side-by-side racing, with guys passing each other instead of wrecking others, then you’ll like the new surface.

“I think the new track is going to provide better racing and add more excitement. I’m a huge fan of the new surface and it’s a step in the right direction, for sure.”

Last year’s fall race at Bristol was panned by many as being a snoozefest because of the lack of passing for the lead (there were only three) and the lack of the beatin’ and bangin’ that had been the trademark of races at the Tennessee track.
