Roush will not appeal

Roush Fenway Racing announced Wednesday that it would not appeal the penalties imposed by NASCAR after Carl Edwards’ winning car failed post-race inspection following the March 2 UAW-Dodge 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Edwards and car owner Jack Roush were penalized 100 championship driver and 100 championship owner points, respectively, when it was determined that the lid for the oil reservoir encasement behind the driver’s seat was off after the race.

Edwards also will not receive the 10 bonus points for winning the race should he qualify for the Chase for the Championship. Crew chief Bob Osborne was fined $100,000, suspended from six NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events, suspended from NASCAR until April 30 and placed on probation until Dec. 31.

“We realize in the NASCAR system of penalty administration that simple negligence, by itself, is never sufficient grounds to overturn or reduce a penalty,” Geoff Smith, president of Roush Fenway Racing, said in a prepared statement. “Consequently, no appeal will be made of the penalties assessed by NASCAR.”
