The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway hosts NHRA Drag Racing

Some of my friends who don’t appreciate auto racing can’t understand how I can watch cars going around in circles for three hours on a Sunday afternoon. So I imagine they would be even more mystified to hear that I also like watching cars go fast in a straight line for a ¼ mile.

I spent this Sunday at the NHRA Summitracing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. And although racing in a straight line isn’t my preferred form of racing, it’s still a blast to watch. Like all racing, it’s loud, it’s fast and you can smell burning rubber. So what’s not to like?

Drag racing isn’t about surviving a 500-mile endurance race, but the concept is still the same. It’s all about going fast and finishing first.

Antron Brown took the top spot in the Top Fuel category by beating Brandon Bernstein in the final round. Brown finished his run in 3.887 seconds at 318.84 mph.

Robert Hight won in the Funny Car category and Mike Edwards finished first in the Pro Stock category.

Here are a few photos from today’s event.
