Former Rebel Ryan Moore wins first PGA Tour event

Former UNLV golfer Ryan Moore won the rain-soaked Wyndham Championship on the third playoff hole Sunday to capture his first PGA Tour event.

“During Ryan's Rebel career, he achieved things that no amateur player had ever done before and may never do again," UNLV men's golf head coach Dwaine Knight said. "After today, he can add PGA Tour Champion next to his name and all of us at UNLV are so proud of that."

Moore is the fifth former Rebel win on the PGA Tour. Charley Hoffman and Chris Riley also have a victory apiece. Chad Campbell has four, and Adam Scott leads the UNLV alums with six.

Moore, a four-time UNLV All-American, won five major amateur championships -- the only golfer to accomplish the feat -- in 2004, when he won the U.S. Amateur, the NCAA, the U.S. Amateur Public Links, the Western Amateur and the Sahalee Players Championship.

As a senior in 2005, he participated in nine events, winning three and finishing second three times. He and Larry Johnson (basketball, in 1991) are the only Rebels to have been named their sport's national player of the year. Click on the headline for details of Moore's victory Sunday.
