It’s Election Day — Vote!

OK, Henderson! If you haven’t already cast a vote for our upcoming election, today is the day. The primary for the Henderson municipal election is today, but if any candidate running for office wins more than 50 percent of the vote, it’s a done deal. If not, we will still have a general election on June 2.

In case you’ve been living under a rock or have been out of town for awhile, here’s the rundown:

The positions for Henderson’s mayor, a seat on the City Council, and a municipal court judge seat are all up for grabs.

-- Mayoral candidates consist of: Former City Councilwoman Amanda Cyphers, City Councilman Andy Hafen, City Councilman Steve Kirk, former Police Chief Michael Mayberry and attorney Richard Sipan.

-- Henderson Police Sergeant Matt Zobrist is battling the current Judge Douglas Hedger for the municipal court judge seat.

-- Kathleen Boutin, Bruce Cutler, Cathy Rosenfield, Jason Frayer, Brandon Casutt, and Jim Dunn, are all running for the City Council Ward III position.

-- Many citizens of Henderson don’t care about municipal government, yet are the first to offer objections and criticisms about our city government when they don’t like what’s taking place. Voting is the first step in getting your opinion out there.

“It’s simply our duty as citizens to vote for the candidates we feel will best represent and uphold our views,” said Rebecca Newsom, a Henderson resident.

After that, the public is always welcome to speak during city council meetings, upon following the proper procedure to do so.

It may take an extra half hour out of your day, but you really should go to your polling place tomorrow and vote. And, to make it even easier to do so, you can vote at any of the 15 vote centers the City will have set up.
