The Green Valley Chapter of the National Charity League held a spring fashion show on Saturday at the Galleria Mall. The show featured clothing, shoes and accessories from JC Penney, New York & Co, Wet Seal, Windsor, Macy's, and Payless. Makeup on the models was done by The Body Shop and Bobbi Brown, and hair was done by The Salon at JC Penney.

The girls put on an enjoyable, 30 minute or so, fashion show and my sister and I were impressed with the poise of these young girls. Just as the announcer mentioned, you could tell they had practiced for weeks. Each model made her way down the runway, did a few stops and turns, and then headed back down. There were no falls (phew!).

The backdrop of the fashion show was set to a New York cityscape called "Bright Lights Big City." They were dressed for events like lunch in the Hamptons, Fifth Avenue formal wear, and Boho Chic. I liked seeing the upcoming fashions for spring because I have no sense of fashion myself (I usually let my mother or my sister pick out my clothes).

One major trend I noticed throughout a lot of the outfits was the color combination of yellow and grey. I guess this is the new thing for spring.

I couldn't help but feel jealous of these beautiful teenagers: I felt like such a dork when I was their age. There is no way I could have walked gracefully down a modeling runway to show off clothing in high school. It also seems like there is much more of a selection in the new millennium for fashion. We sure have come a long way from the plain days of the 1990s, when we wore jeans and sweater vests.

The mission of the National Charity League is "to foster mother-daughter relationships in a philanthropic organization committed to community service, leadership development and cultural experiences," according to its Web site.

"National Charity League, Inc. (NCL) is a non-profit national organization of mothers and daughters who join together in community involvement within local chapters throughout the United States. Its goal is to foster a sense of community responsibility in the girls as well as to strengthen the mother-daughter relationship. The daughters participate in a six-year program of philanthropic work, educational activities and cultural events."

This was a fun event to watch at the mall and informative as to what is out there in stores at the Galleria. It was well coordinated and everything seemed to go as planned.
