Globetrotters pay tribute to Flash Richardson on ‘Amazing Race’

A pair of Harlem Globetrotters has been honoring the late Chris “Flash” Richardson, who played basketball at UNLV, in “The Amazing Race 15.”

Herbert “Flight Time” Lang and Nathaniel “Big Easy” Lofton have been paying poignant tribute to Richardson as they trek through Tokyo, Phnom Penh and Dubai.

They occasionally wear shirts or necklaces with "CLR” on them.

In four seasons, through 2001-02, Richardson shot 56 percent as a Rebel. That’s eighth on UNLV’s career field-goal percentage chart.

Richardson, 28, passed away in December while on tour with the Trotters in Japan.

In February, the team honored Flash when it visited Las Vegas.

Las Vegas resident and lifelong UNLV hoops fan Scott Olson, 35, watched the show and followed up with an e-mail to Big Easy, thanking him for keeping Richardson’s memory alive.

Flash, Big Easy and Flight Time were so tight they were known as “The Three Amigos” among the Globetrotters, and Big Easy responded to Olson in seven minutes.

“Hey, no problem,” Nathaniel Lofton wrote on his BlackBerry from somewhere in Asia. “Meeting and playing with Chris was special for me. It’s a small hello from us to his family and friends. That was part of why we did the show. Thanks for the e-mail. Much love.”

The show airs on CBS on Sunday at 8 p.m.
