Joe Heck: ‘I don’t know who Orly Taitz is’

Self-appointed "birther queen" Orly Taitz may be a big fan of Republican House candidate Joe Heck, but Heck says he doesn't know who she is.

"I don't know who Orly Taitz is," Heck said Wednesday. "The first I saw of that endorsement was on a Google alert."

Taitz is a California dentist and lawyer who gained national attention for her "birther" theories. She claims that President Barack Obama is not a U.S. citizen and therefore is ineligible to serve as president.

She has twice this week endorsed Heck (whom she called "Joe Hack") on her website. Taitz also supports Republican U.S. Senate candidate Sharron Angle.

Campaign officials said this week that Heck is not a birther.

Taitz plans to visit Nevada this month to campaign for Angle and Heck.

Heck doesn't want her help -- he pointed out that she got both his name and his record wrong -- but he doesn't plan to tell her to stay home.

"We don't control who volunteers for our campaign," Heck campaign manager Grant Hewitt said.
