NOW:

According to a press release that went out today, the NBA Summer League at the Thomas & Mack Center and Cox Pavilion "is a great way for fans to see the league's young talent, while having the chance to watch their favorite NBA teams compete in a family-friendly atmosphere."

It didn't mention anything about double dribbles and matador defense.

Actually, with nine of the top 14 draft picks from Thursday's 2008 NBA Draft scheduled to compete, double dribbles and matador defense might not be a problem this year.

The Summer League schedule also was released today. It's that long thing on the right. You can purchase tickets here.

----- Have you seen the photos of Arfat Fadel, the guy who has been arrested in conjunction with the Las Vegas beating and robbery of Oakland Raiders wide receiver Javon Walker? Although one of the pictures is fuzzy, it shows a guy who has something wrapped around his shoulders, like a cape. If this is the same guy who put an NFL wide receiver in the hospital, the Dolphins probably should think about drafting him.

----- San Jose State fans are upset with me for not adding that the Spartans' "bone bruise" black-and-blue-and-yellow uniforms, which I mentioned on the print side today in a piece about the worst college football uniforms I have seen, were put into mothballs a couple of seasons ago. In a related note, I also heard from a giant moth named Sid, who said those uniforms were so ugly that he went to bed hungry.

----- I see where the New Jersey State Police and the National Hot Rod Association will conduct separate investigations into what killed drag racer Scott Kalitta in a fiery crash on Saturday. I'm no insurance adjuster, but my guess is that his car traveling faster than 300 mph before bursting into flames and crashing through a fence probably had something to do with it.

----- One more reason to like golfer Rocco Mediate: He wasn't upset when NBC golf analyst Johnny Miller said he he looks like the guy who cleans Tiger Woods' swimming pool. It was just a joke. Give Rocco a little red number for recognizing it.

THEN:

I have an action figure of the great Roberto Clemente on my desk which depicts the former Pirates slugger standing at home plate, coiled, waiting for a pitch to be delivered.

One of these days when I show up for work I fully expect to see him perched on third base after hitting a stand-up triple.
