Chase Maddux makes Wrigley Field debut

NOW

On a day on which his and Hall of Famer Fergie Jenkins' jersey No. 31 was retired by the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, Las Vegan Greg Maddux deferred the throwing-out-the-first-pitch honor to his 11-year-old son, Chase. Greg, a Valley High graduate, served as catcher.

Satchel Chase Maddux fired a wild pitch right past his old man.

Had Bruce Froemming been the home plate umpire, I'm sure he would have called it a strike. (Cubs and Milt Pappas' fans will get the reference).

"You don't want to sacrifice velocity for location," Greg Maddux told the Cubs' announcers when asked about his son's first outing on the same mound where he had so much success.

You can read about Greg's -- and Fergie's -- beautiful day at Wrigley Field by clicking here.

THEN

"Maddux is so good, we all should be wearing tuxedos when he pitches" -- former Montreal Expos scout Phil Favia.
