Sources confirm the governor will present a comprehensive and dramatic plan Wednesday that will remove the statutory requirements for collective bargaining, full-day kindergarten and class-size reduction while empowering local districts and instituting school vouchers. The plan also will totally restructure the state Board of Education and remove the 15 teacher-union-friendly words that prevent the state from receiving the Race to the Top federal funds.
This is a declaration of war on the Education Establishment and the public sector unions by a governor with nothing to lose and perhaps much to gain -- at least in a GOP primary.
Watch for explosive reaction Wednesday.
