UFC: Koscheck wins; Pete Wentz sighting

The Chris Lytle-Josh Koscheck started slow and ended in a bloodbath.

The fact that Tito Ortiz waked by the cage drew more cheers than the first round of the fight.

Koscheck basically spent the entire fight trying to ground and pound Lytle. It’s a strategy that’s worked before for the 10-2 fighter. He even took Georges St. Pierre, the welterweight champ, the distance last year.

But it also makes him an enemy to the fans that love stand-up wars. About three minutes into the second Koscheck did draw blood with a series of elbows and punches out of the half guard.

It left a nice splatter on the canvas and the nearby camera lens.

It also turned Koscheck’s big blonde hair red, gaining him the crowd’s respect.

He got more when he escaped a guillotine choke in round three.

Lytle’s white shorts were eventually more of a pink color.

With 1:38 left in the fight the ref stood the fighters up after a few minutes of inactivity that was basically Lytle taking elbows in his already busted face. He made an effort to keep fighting and had the crowd chanting, “Lytle.”

The crowd’s opinion doesn’t matter though.

Koscheck won by unanimous decision as the boo birds flew around the arena.

“It was a good fight,” Koscheck said. “Chris Lytle is one of the classiest fighters around…I was just better tonight.”

Koscheck is starting a clothing line, he said. He’s not going to have a lot of customers in this building.

Pete Wentz, the singer for Fall Out Boy, is here in Mandalay Bay. His wife, Ashlee Simpson, is not with him. That’s unfortunate for the people gawking at the cageside spectators.
