Vegas Play of the Day: Detroit Tigers at Toronto

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Detroit Tigers (-115) at Toronto Blue Jays: $565 to win $500: Talk about great value with the Tigers. Only having to lay $1.15 to win $1 with Detroit starter Max Scherzer is a big-time bargain. Scherzer has a 13-4 record with a 3.24 earned run average, striking out 171 batters in 153 innings pitched with just 44 walks. He’s one of baseball’s best.

Toronto starter Marcus Stroman also has dynamic stuff and is quickly developing into a star. However, the 23-year-old could be fading in the final months of the season, lasting just three innings in his most recent start.

Toronto is also fading, having lost six of its last 10 games to fall six games behind Baltimore in the American League East standings. Scherzer will continue the Toronto struggles.
