Vegas Play of the Day: St. John’s at Providence

St. John's

Associated Press

St. John’s D’Angelo Harrison (11) reacts with teammates Rysheed Jordan (23) and Sir’Dominic Pointer (15) after drawing a foul while attempting a 3-point shot against Villanova during the second half of an NCAA college basketball game Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, in New York. Villanova won 74-67.

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point.

Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

St. John’s plus-3 at Providence: $220 to win $200

Small bet today because there wasn’t much on the college basketball board that I liked. Considered Ohio State getting 5.5 points at Iowa, but I’ve given up trying to figure out the Big Ten. I also looked at Ole Miss getting 12.5 points at Kentucky, but I couldn’t put my faith in a team that got beat by 16 at Tennessee less than a week ago.

St. John’s lost by one at home in double overtime the first time these two teams met. Since then, the Red Storm have won four out of five, and the only loss was on a final seconds 3-pointer by Creighton’s Doug McDermott on Jan. 28.

Because of an incredibly strange scheduling quirk, St. John’s and Creighton will meet again this weekend in New York. So this is a mine revenge tour for the Red Storm, and even if they don’t win both games — they’ll be underdogs in both — I think they can keep at least this one close.

Standings: Bern (4-4, $9,590), Brewer (3-5-1, $9,200), Keefer (4-7, $8,517.50)
