Vegas Play of the Day: Michigan State at Wisconsin

Michigan State Tom Izzo

Associated Press

Michigan State coach Tom Izzo reacts during the second half of an NCAA college basketball game against Penn State, Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, in East Lansing, Mich. Michigan State won 82-67.

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point.

Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Michigan State plus-2.5 at Wisconsin: $220 to win $200

I felt compelled to match a big bet like the $880 that Ray Brewer put up yesterday, but considering I’ve already missed out on the number I liked plus the way that turned out for him, best I keep it small.

Michigan State was getting 3.5 points when I first looked at the South Point’s lines on our site. By the time I pulled the trigger, it was down to 2.5, and while I certainly like that less, I’ll still stick with the better team getting points.

I’ve said before that I can’t figure out the Big 10, which is the main reason it’s a small bet. Wisconsin has lost three consecutive home games, and that’s unheard of in the Bo Ryan era. So even though Michigan State is four games better in league play, it seems that most people are expecting the Badgers to bounce back.

That wouldn’t be surprising, but I don’t feel too bad being on the side of Tom Izzo with a couple of points.

Standings: Bern (7-4, $10,490), Keefer (4-7, $8,517.50), Brewer (3-6-2, $8,320)
