Vegas Play of the Day: Blue Jays at Yankees

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

New York Yankees (-125) vs. Toronto Blue Jays: $600 to win $500 : Toronto starter Mark Buehrle hasn’t won since June 1 and has been hit hard in his most-recent outings. While he still ranks eighth in the American League with a 2.86 earned run average, that’s mostly because of a great start to the season.

Last Sunday, he gave up five earned runs in six innings. And when he last faced the Yankees on June 24, New York belted two home runs in six innings, and Buehrle had just two strikeouts. That means the Yanks will put the ball in play tonight and possibly over the short fences at Yankee Stadium.

Unfortunately for New York backers, Yankee starter Hiroki Kuroda hasn’t been much better. But in his last two starters, he’s surrendered just three runs in 14 innings to bring his ERA under 4.00. For a good price, I’ll take the risk with Kuroda.

Standings: Bern (40-25-1, $14,934), Keefer (32-36, $9,146), Brewer (26-37-3, $3,055)
