Vegas Play of the Day: Seattle Mariners at New York Yankees

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Seattle Mariners moneyline (minus-126) at New York Yankees: $504 to win $400

This is a weird spot for the Mariners, who finished a home series Sunday and will jet over to New York for a makeup game before heading down to Atlanta. Based on that schedule and both teams’ recent performance, one might be inclined to go with the home team.

However, when Felix Hernandez is on the mound, I’m inclined to throw a lot of things out the window and side with one of the best pitchers in the game, especially when he’s at a good price.

The Mariners’ offense isn’t very good — they rank last in the American League in batting average, OBP and OPS — but, like I said before, with Hernandez on the hill, I care less about those numbers. If he’s dialed in, it shouldn’t take much support. And at a low price, I’m willing to go with that.
