Vegas Play of the Day: NBA Finals Game 4

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

San Antonio Spurs plus-5.5 at Miami Heat: $330 to win $300

After that big victory in Game 3, it figured that everything would be slanted towards the Heat to come back. Pretty much everyone expects a long, eventful series and a Spurs victory tonight would pretty much end that.

A 3-1 deficit isn’t impossible, sure, but coming back from that doesn’t happen much. Throw in that two of the final three games are in San Antonio and you can see the importance of tonight.

Still, based on what we’ve seen so far I wouldn’t have any confidence laying that many points with Miami. The Heat, specifically LeBron James, can go off at anytime and make a close game a blowout. But that’s against most teams. I don’t think that’s nearly as likely against the Spurs, whose offensive sets are great at stopping a run and settling things back down.

And that’s assuming that’s what San Antonio will have to do. As the Spurs showed in Game 3, they can also just run their opponent out of the building.

I’m certainly not expecting that to happen again, and while a comfortable Heat victory wouldn’t shock me I don’t like the side nearly enough to play it. I’m happy taking the points with the team that’s been better for the majority of this series.
