Vegas Play of the Day: NBA Finals Game 5

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Miami Heat moneyline (plus-210) at San Antonio Spurs: $500 to win $1,050

Wishful thinking? Maybe. The Spurs have a commanding 3-1 series lead, and if they play anything like they did the past two games, this one won’t be close either.

It’s that thinking that led me to go with a Miami straight-up win, although I admit I’m also just rooting for the series to keep going. But I think most of us would agree: If the Heat lose, it’s not going to be close.

The line (Spurs minus-6) is an indication of just how one-sided this thing feels right now. It’s the largest underdog the Heat have ever been with LeBron James in the lineup.

It’s amazing just how efficiently the Spurs have dismantled Miami’s defense and made the second halves boring if not for the joy of watching San Antonio’s offense. I mean, who knew touch passes were sexy?

And yet, I still have a little faith that Miami has one more punch left in it. I’m not super confident in that thought, but at better than 2-to-1 prices, it’s worth a shot.

Standings: Bern (32-22-1, $12,579), Keefer (25-31, $8,074), Brewer (18-27-3, $4,450)
