Vegas Play of the Day: San Francisco Giants at Arizona Diamondbacks

I hereby interrupt the regularly programmed WNBA betting pick.

Ray Brewer has hit two WNBA games in a row in the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point and features a $10,000 starting bankroll. But I don’t think I could name five teams in the league, so I’ll focus the gambling elsewhere.

Arizona Diamondbacks minus-115 vs. San Francisco Giants: $345 to win $300

The standings at the beginning of the week projected this series as a matchup between the best team and the worst team in the Majors. That doesn’t tell the whole story, though.

The Giants aren’t quite as remarkable as the start they got off to through the first 12 weeks of the season. And the Diamondbacks aren’t quite as poor as their wretched start.

The extremes are due to even out as the season progresses. In the Giants’ case, it’s already underway.

Dating back to a week ago, San Francisco has lost five straight games. Even though Arizona hasn’t fared much better, there’s no reason to barge off of the downswing yet.

The Diamondbacks have positively crushed tonight’s starter Tim Lincecum through the years. Betting against “The Freak,” who turned 30 years old earlier this week, has been favorable of late as he still commands a tad too much respect from the betting market.

Arizona starter Josh Collmenter is no Ace himself, but he’s pitched well against San Francisco and has shown flashes of brilliance throughout the season. Collmenter has pitched significantly better at Chase Field, where he faced the minimum batters in a three-hit shutout against the Reds three weeks ago.

Standings: Bern (32-23-1, $12,079), Keefer (25-31, $8,074), Brewer (20-29-3, $4,525)
