Vegas Play of the Day: Red Sox at Yankees

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Boston Red Sox at New York Yankees Total Over 9.5, -120: $480 to win $400 : The Yankees’ Vidal Nuno is one of the worst pitchers in baseball, with an ugly 5.58 earned run average. On June 15, he surrendered eight runs in three innings. On June 21, he surrendered three home runs. And opponents are batting .287 against him in 67 innings.

Boston’s Brandon Workman will be rusty after not pitching in 12 days. He served a six-game suspension for throwing near the head of Tampa’s Evan Longoria. While Workman has a 3.21 earned run average in five starts since being promoted from Triple-A in May, he’s still far from proven.

And with Nuno guaranteed to be hit hard, the over is a solid wager. Hopefully, we can get our weekend started out with a little extra cash in our wallets.

Standings: Bern (33-24-1, $12,019), Keefer (26-32, $8,074), Brewer (21-29-3, $3,875)
