Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.
Cincinnati (minus-1.5, +140) at San Diego Padres: $500 to win $700 : The Reds are one of the hottest teams in baseball, having won a season-best five straight games and posting a 14-4 record since June 1. They just finished a sweep at the San Francisco Giants, one of baseball’s better teams.
Cincinnati starter Mat Latos is gaining momentum after starting the season on the disabled list. This will be his fourth start of the season. In his most recent outing, Latos pitched seven scoreless innings to beat the Chicago Cubs.
This bet is even more attractive because the Padres struggle to score runs. Also, San Diego starter Jesse Hahn has been in the big leagues for about a month. He’ll be overwhelmed by Cincinnati’s veteran lineup of Phillips, Votto and Bruce.
So overwhelmed, I’m willing to play the Reds on the run line with hopes of digging out of my massive deficit in our contest.
Standings: Bern (33-24-1, $12,019), Keefer (27-33, $8,474), Brewer (21-33-3, $2,735)
