Washington Nationals starting pitcher Max Scherzer throws during Saturday’s game.

We’ve entered the third season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won the 2015-2016 season, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015.

Washington Nationals minus-1.5 vs. Milwaukee Brewers $550 to win $500: Take one of baseball’s best pitchers in Washington’s Max Scherzer, pit him against one of the league’s worst teams in the Brewers and the result should be easy to predict: A convincing Washington victory.

Add in it being a heavily attend and festive Fourth of July game in the nation’s capital, and my confidence level in the Nats increase. Yes, they need to win by two or more runs on the run line, but that shouldn’t be a problem. The game has all the makings of a blowout — or does it?

Scherzer was roughed up for five runs in seven innings at Milwaukee two weeks ago in his worst start of the season, meaning the Brewers’ could easily continue their success. But in Scherzer’s other starts in June, he surrendered just four runs in 35 innings. Look for “Mad Max” to get his revenge.

Current Standings: Keefer (2-0, $10,750), Brewer (0-1, $9,480), Bern (0-0, $10,000)
