Vegas Play of the Day: Detroit Tigers at Tampa Bay Rays

We've reset the Play of the Day with fresh bankrolls and turned it into a yearly competition. Our three sports writers have re-started with $10,000 bankrolls to continue using on odds from the South Point.

Tampa Bay Rays minus-110 vs. Detroit Tigers: $1,100 to win $1,000

Today’s play doesn’t matter. Ray Brewer has locked up the title, given our $1,000 max-wager rule.

It would still be nice to head into next year’s contest on a positive by hitting my first baseball Play of the Day of the year. Yes, I think it’s been that bad for me on the bases.

To break it, I want to buy low and sell high at the same time. Tampa Bay is no playoff contender, but it’s better than a recent 11-game losing streak.

That’s similar to how the Tigers aren’t as strong as they showed in a 6-3 home stand that boosted them over .500. Detroit hasn’t played nearly as well on the road this year, yet it’s still drawing the majority of the action in this game.

Getting Jake Odorizzi at a pick’em price at home against Jordan Zimmermann is an attractive option. The Rays are the route to finishing the Play of the Day season on a high.

Current Standings (as of July 1): Brewer (51-45-2, $11,225), Bern (35-42, $6,420), Keefer (53-64-2, $4,991)

Lifetime standings: 2014-15 Champion Bern (115-116-1), Keefer (136-147-4), Brewer (120-131-4)
