Vegas Play of the Day: Seahawks at Chargers

Chargers

San Diego Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers looks to throw a pass during the first half of an NFL football game against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, in San Diego.

We’ve entered the fourth season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won back-to-back titles in the 2015-2016 and 2016-17 seasons, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015.

Los Angeles Chargers minus-1.5 vs Seattle Seahawks: $440 to win $400

Tonight the Chargers make their Los Angeles debut, as they take on the Seattle Seahawks inside the intimate StubHub Center. We’ll go with intimate to describe the embarrassingly small, 27,000 seat stadium that will house the Chargers for the next couple seasons.

It’s tough to handicap preseason football, but the one thing that’s certain is projecting regular-season expectations on exhibition games is not the way to go. That’s what the majority of the public is doing in this game, with a large majority of the bets placed going on the Seattle Seahawks -- who are expected to be heavy favorites in the NFC West this season.

But despite the money pouring in on Seattle, books across town have moved from Chargers minus-1, to minus-1.5 and as high as minus-2 in some spots.

It’ll be interesting to see Cardale Jones, who is currently listed as the third-string quarterback, make his Chargers debut, and I like the Chargers’ running back depth of Kenjon Barner and Kenneth Farrow. I like the Chargers to start their tenure in Los Angeles with a win, even if it is only an exhibition.

Current Standings: Granger (4-4, $11,657), Keefer (5-2-1, $11,095), Grimala (2-1, $10,595), Brewer (4-5, $8,740)
