Vegas Play of the Day: San Diego State at UNLV

Boise State Over UNLV

L.E. Baskow

UNLV guard Kris Clyburn (1) drives the lane on a Boise State defender during their game at the Thomas & Mack Center on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2017.

We’re entering the third season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won the 2015-2016 season, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015. Bern stepped away in the middle of the 2016-2017 season with a 16-12 record and $13,317 bankroll, with Mike Grimala taking his place.

UNLV plus-5.5 vs. San Diego State: $440 to win $400 San Diego State isn’t the power many expected it to be. The Aztecs enter tonight’s game at UNLV with a 2-3 record in the Mountain West and rank 206th nationally at 70 points per game. They’ve been hurt with poor guard play and average just 11.9 assists per game — that ranks 294th nationally.

Attendance at Thomas & Mack Center has been on a decline most of the season, but that may not be a problem tonight. San Diego State is the Rebels’ top rival, which should bring more people to the arena. And, more importantly, school is back in session, meaning students should be back.

UNLV has momentum on its side after erasing a double-digit second-half deficit to win at New Mexico last week. The Rebels had a bye over the weekend and should be well rested.

Current Standings: Keefer (35-24-2, $12,031), Brewer (21-18-1, $10,095), Grimala (3-3, $9,500), Granger (6-10, $6,400)
