Vegas Play of the Day: Steelers at Patriots

Tom Brady

Winslow Townson / AP

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady passes against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first half of an NFL game Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015, in Foxborough, Mass.

We’ve entered the third season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won the 2015-2016 season, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015. Bern stepped away in the middle of the 2016-2017 season with a 16-12 record and $13,317 bankroll, with Mike Grimala taking his place.

New England Patriots minus-6 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers, $440 to win $400:

Once again we have reached championship week in the NFL, and once again Tom Brady and the New England Patriots are suiting up in Foxborough, Mass. If it seems the Patriots are here every year, it’s because they are. Today is New England’s sixth straight AFC Championship game appearance.

Since Brady has returned from his suspension, the Patriots have been great, with a 12-1 record straight up and an eight-game win streak. Even more impressive than the win streak, the Patriots have covered the spread in six straight games, and seven of the past eight.

The Patriots have played extremely well against the Steelers, winning nine of the past 12 games between the two. New England is 8-2-1 against the spread against the Steelers when Brady starts at quarterback, including a 27-16 win in Pittsburgh on Oct. 23, 2015.

Although 6 points is more than I’d normally like to lay in a conference championship game, I have to go with Bill Belichick and the Patriots at home.

Current Standings: Keefer (36-25-2, $12,001), Brewer (21-20-1, $8,885), Grimala (3-3, $9,500), Granger (7-10, $6,700)
