Vegas Play of the Day: Missouri at Mississippi State

We’re entering the third season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won the 2015-2016 season, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015. Bern stepped away in the middle of the 2016-2017 season with a 16-12 record and $13,317 bankroll, with Mike Grimala taking his place.

Missouri at Mississippi State, Total Over 142.5: $770 to win $700 In seven of Missouri’s last eight games, the Tigers have surrendered more than 70 points. That includes yielding point totals of 81, 88 and 92. That’s part of the reason why Missouri ranks last in the Southeastern Conference. The other is it struggles to score, ranking 261st in points per game at 70.

Yes, you are right, that doesn’t exactly scream the points total going over. But consider the following: In six of Missouri’s last seven games, it has scored more than 70 points. And the Tigers pull down nearly 40 rebounds per game — 27th best nationally — which means they’ll get a few second chances on possessions near the basket.

Mississippi State has surrendered 88 and 91 points in its last two games. Both teams are trending toward the over — it’s worth a significant wager.
