Vegas Play of the Day: Coastal Carolina at Wyoming

UNLV Basketball Versus Wyoming

L.E. Baskow

Wyoming guard Jeremy Lieberman (11) dives for a loose ball as Wyoming guard Justin James (1) takes possession during their game at the Thomas & Mack Center on Saturday, Dec. 31, 2016.

We’ve entered the third season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won the 2015-2016 season, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015. Bern stepped away in the middle of the 2016-2017 season with a 16-12 record and $13,317 bankroll, with Mike Grimala taking his place.

Coastal Carolina plus-8.5 vs. Wyoming: $550 to win $500

Wyoming, as usual, used its high altitude and inconvenient travel to have one of the better home-court advantages in college basketball this year. The Cowboys went 18-3 straight-up, 13-6 against the spread (not all games were lined) at Arena Auditorium.

But none of the teams they faced had a few days to adjust to the environment in Laramie, Wyo., like Coastal Carolina going into the decisive Game 3 of the CBI Tournament. The Chanticleers were predictably blown out 81-57 in game 2 on Wednesday but should put forth a much better performance tonight.

The effects of the travel were evident, as Coastal hit only 21 of 67 field goal attempts and were out-rebounded 39-33. The Chanticleers are no killers on either offense or the glass, but they’ll play better in Game 2.

The Cowboys will need to be even sharper to cover this spread, which looks a couple points too high.

Current Standings: Grimala (6-9, $8,950), Keefer (39-34-3, $8,381), Granger (13-16-1, $7,040), Brewer (26-28-1, $6,285)
