Vegas Play of the Day: Kings at Golden Knights

Marchessault

Vegas Golden Knights center Jonathan Marchessault celebrates a goal against the Colorado Avalanche during the first period of a preseason hockey game Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2017, in Denver.

We’re entering the fourth season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won back-to-back titles in the 2015-2016 and 2016-17 seasons, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015.

Kings at Golden Knights, Total Over 5.5 at minus-110: $880 to win $800: If you are going to the Golden Knights game tonight at the T-Mobile Arena, you need to have action on it, right?

The Los Angeles Kings and Vegas have combined to play eight exhibition games heading into tonight. Seven of those eight games have featured six or more goals, making a wager on the total goals over attractive.

Exhibition games are mostly meaningless because there’s no predicting which players will be on the ice. But tonight, in the last Vegas game before coach Gerard Gallant finalizes his roster for opening night, expect a great effort from those players on the roster bubble. That will lead to offense.

More important, it’s the first Golden Knights game in Las Vegas in franchise history. They’ll be motivated to light the lamp and put on a show for the hometown faithful.

Current Standings: Keefer (9-5-1, $11,755), Granger (6-6, $11,595), Grimala (4-4, $9,945), Brewer (7-9, $8,160)
