Vegas Play of the Day: Cubs at Cardinals

We’ve entered the fourth season of the annual South Point-lined Play of the Day competition, effective July 1.

Starting bankrolls have reset to $10,000, with the maximum bet being to win $1,000 and the minimum wager $300. Ray Brewer won back-to-back titles in the 2015-2016 and 2016-17 seasons, after Taylor Bern prevailed in 2014-2015.

Chicago Cubs at St. Louis Cardinals under 8.5 runs: $330 to win $300

The stakes couldn’t be higher, with these two heated rivals finishing off their final series of the season with plenty on the line. St. Louis is trying to sneak into the wild card, while Chicago could clinch the National League Central title with a win.

Both offenses have enlivened in the first two game of the series, with a combined 27 runs scored, but the finale should be lower scoring. Neither Cardinals starter Michael Wacha nor Cubs starter John Lackey have had their best seasons, but they’re intimately familiar with each other’s lineups.

They’re going to channel all they have into this start. That should make for a tense game where the result comes down to the final innings.

Look for something like a 4-3 win either way, with the under comfortably cashing.

Current Standings: Keefer (9-5-1, $11,755), Granger (6-6, $11,595), Grimala (4-4, $9,945), Brewer (7-10, $7,280)
